C.A.P. Lake Macquarie
As part of the ongoing work of GATEWAY CARE and GATEWAY CHURCH, a Christians Against Poverty(CAP) office has opened in our premises in Lakeview Pde. Pelican (Swansea District).

who are we?
"a charity releasing people from debt and poverty through debt counselling, practical services and financial education:

Christians Against Poverty Australia (C.A.P.) is a national debt counselling service providing support and practical assistance to anyone who is facing hardship as a result of financial difficulties.  We are based in the Hunter with a growing national presence.

debt, poverty & anxiety

There are many reasons why people find themselves in debt.  It may be due to unemployment, divorce, illness or simply struggling to budget.  Whatever the reason, the consequences can be severe, and include stress, shame, depression, family breakdown, household eviction or even attempted self harm.

the solution

C.A.P. offers a unique debt counselling service, which includes budgeting and financial education.  All of our clients who sucessfully follow our program become debt free.

a practical budget

We come to your home so we can work out a suitable budget with you.  We make sure the budget covers all your household bills, including rent, food and utilities.  Any left over income is fairly allocated to outstanding debts, such as credit cards, store cards or loans.  We negotiate creditors on your behalf and you don't need to face them again.

the budget account

C.A.P. provides a budget account into which you deposit agreed amounts of money, which are then automatically paid to your creditors to meet your bills or agreed payments.  We understand that sticking to a budget can be difficult and so we provide a case worker and support worker to help you with this process.  Part of the budget includes an amount set aside for savings to help you break the cycle of debt by planning for future needs.  In most cases, debts can be cleared at an affordable rate within a realistic and agreed time period.  Where this is not possible, a specific plan is developed to address your particular needs.

testimonial

"I was feeling so desperate, alone and distressed over crippling debt that I thought I just could not go on living.  Then someone gave me a brochure about Christians Against Poverty.  I didn't realise it then, but I now know that God had a plan for me.  Still the hardest decision I had to make was to tell someone about the financial mess I was in.  cap staff came out to my home and they treated me with incredible respect and dignity.  They helped me work out a plan for a brighter future.  cap has helped me realise that I am not alone, and that there are people who truly care about you and give you the financial help and emotional support you need."

"Thank you so much cap, without your help, who knows where I would be."
